As for other official documents, you must submit a photo to facilitate identification during your travels and customs controls. The passport photo must respect all the requirements and characteristics imposed by the Singaporean government. We’ll break down each of these requirements so that you’ll be guaranteed to have your baby’s passport photo approved by the authorities. Here is a complete guideline to help you:
The baby passport photo in Singapore has the exact dimensions of 35x45 mm (width and height) which is considered the official passport size in many world countries. Any photo with a different size will not be accepted as it is a fundamental criterion for a passport photo. Bear in mind that the passport photo should also measure 400x514 in pixels if it is to be put on the passport application form.
It is primordial that the baby passport photo given is of high quality, with a high resolution, and adequate and even luminosity on the entire picture. The photo must be in colour and photos in black and white will be rejected by the government. You might as well make sure that the printed photo is not damaged in any way, nor bent or contain any trace that might result in a passport application rejection. There should also be enough lighting on the photo, but make sure not to use a flash to avoid any reflection, blinding, and “red-eye” effect on your baby’s passport photo.
On its part, the photo background must be plain white, but if you are taking the passport photo at home and don’t have a white wall, just use another background and our online photo editor will easily replace it with a perfect white background.
For the passport photo, your baby must wear comfortable clothes which you use on a daily-life basis. Try to avoid white clothes as the background must already be plain white and there must be a sufficient contrast between the baby’s face and the background to highlight the face of your baby.
Regarding the accessories such as hats, headbands, or jewellery, it is advised to remove them while the picture is being taken to avoid covering any part of the face of the baby. Moreover, your baby should not hold a toy or other object as nothing must be visible on a passport photo except the applicant (here: your baby).
Unfortunately, sometimes people end up having their baby’s passport photo being rejected because of a simple mistake on the picture. This is often because they disregarded this important part of the passport application and did not really pay attention to the passport photo requirements.
In order to avoid that issue happening to you, we have compiled a list of common mistakes made that have to be avoided at all costs:
Of course, we recommend that you read all the requirements mentioned before to be sure to have the passport photo accepted.

Once you'll have finished filling out the passport application form, you'll have the submit the following documents: ID number (Singpass), ID of at least one of the parents, a baby passport photo, and a birth certificate can be asked as well.
Are you planning to go on a trip abroad with your baby? If it’s the case, you’ll need to apply for a baby’s passport application as all Singaporean citizens must present a passport document in order to fly to another country, and that regardless of age. Indeed, a passport is a document that allows citizens to travel freely between countries and can also be used like an ID as proof of citizenship/nationality. In Singapore, the passport document has a validity of 10 years for all citizens aged 16 years or older, and 5 years for other children.
The procedure to get a baby’s passport and any other type of passport can get quite long and exhausting, and we’ll explain below the different steps of the procedure and give you some tips to help you get your baby’s passport as soon as possible.
Getting a baby’s passport in Singapore has a similar procedure than other countries around the world: you’ll have to submit a passport application and send various documents to obtain the document that will be essential if you want to travel with your family with a baby.
The first thing you’ll need to do is visit the website of ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority), which is the official website dedicated to ID and passport applications in Singapore and where you’ll find a lot of useful and trustworthy information.
With technology playing an increasingly important part in our daily lives in this modern society, the Singaporean government allows citizens to submit a baby passport application online. Otherwise, there is also the possibility to fill out a passport application form and send it by post to the Citizen Services Centre of ICA. That way, you can fill it out directly online on your computer and print it. But as you can imagine, this latest option may not be the best and fastest solution…
This application form is divided into different sections and is not as long as you may expect. In this form, which can be downloaded here, you’ll be asked to submit basic personal information such as the full name of your baby, your postal address, contact details, etc. Then, a payment for a passport application is required (normally SGD 70), so you’ll have to write down the details of your credit card. Nevertheless, if you apply for your baby’s passport before the first birthday, you’ll get a waiver of the application fee if it’s a first-time passport application.
Once you’ve sent the application form, you’ll have to wait patiently until you receive a confirmation email that the passport is ready to be collected in person at a post office or an ICA building (self-counter or collection counter). There is no need to bring your baby at the office as no fingerprints will be scanned.
If you live abroad, you can do the passport application online as well or do it in person by making an appointment at the closest Singaporean Embassy in the country where you currently live. Be sure to bring enough cash with you during the appointment as some embassies and consulates may not accept other means of payment for the application fee.
When applying for a passport in Singapore, whether it be for a baby, children, or adult, you’ll need to present some documents or forward them via the online platform:
Have all your documents ready in hand for your baby’s passport application to avoid having your application rejected and other potential issues.
