Consider the distance
Keep your front-facing camera 16–20 inch (40–50 cm) away from the face. For rear cameras, keep a 4–6 foot (1–2 meter) distance.
Keep your head and body straight
Look directly into the camera and avoid tilting your body. Remember, portrait mode is unacceptable for passport photos.

An Indian passport photo should be of color, taken within 6 months of your application, and a size of 2 inches x 2 inches. In digital format, the maximum file size for each photo is 100KB, and the minimum is 20KB. In pixels, it should not exceed 1000 pixels (width) x 1000 pixels (height) and should not be less than 350 pixels (width) x 350 pixels (height). Right background and lighting for an Indian passport photo
The background color for the passport photo should be plain white or off-white. The light on the face should be even and balanced. Photograph tone should be continuous. Three-point balanced lighting should be used for capturing the facial features clearer.

Exceptions for children and babies in Indian Passport Photos
Children under ten years of age and also babies have some relaxed requirements for their Indian passport photo. Children under the age of 10 have relaxed rules regarding the height of the face and position of the eyes. Infants under one year are not required to have their eyes open. Babies and infants have more relaxed necessities concerning facial expression, the position of the face, eyes, and the line of sight.
However, a clear frontal photo with a neutral facial expression and mouth closed is required for the children. The background should be clear from other people, chairs backs, or toys.
